Shining, Shimmering, Splendid Kitchen Walls

Since it’s that time of the year for everything shining, shimmering, and splendid, we’ll focus on how to incorporate those three factors in the heart of the home: kitchen! Yes, it can be quite a challenge to live it with a shiny kitchen wall especially if you’re always leaning towards the side of time-honored interior. But you know what? If you use it sensibly, a lustrous kitchen wall can be a wonderful design element. And also, to quote Roger Banks-Pye, “Whatever you do in your decorating philosophy, be brave....never wish you hadn't taken your vision right to the end. Make a bold statement.” It is without a shadow of doubt that a luminous wall finish will add an immense level of richness to any kitchen. Texture, shape, sizes, colors, and style abound when it comes to making your walls shine! You can stick to the conventional ceramic tiles or the posh iridescence of nacre. One wall is enough to make a “bold statement”; more than that is hyperbolic. What about gleam with gleam? Is that too much? Not really. Mick DeGiulio’s amazing kitchen design above is a shiny mixture done perfectly. The Ann Sacks Davlin goldleaf tiles provide a magnificent backdrop for the stainless steel open kitchen shelves. Say it with me - amazing!!!

Metal mosaic in silver can turn any kitchen from wearisome to ultra exciting! If you want to stick to mono hues, but are still craving for that punch that makes the whole place come to life, go for metal tiles! The silver tiles still blend well with the rest of the tones above. The sheen is the only component that makes it elegantly striking. The industrial cage pendants with ebonized rust stain are a great way to dodge the eyes away from a wall with robust details.

A pop of sheen is not just for minimalist, modern kitchens. You can go for the unconventional by adding one to a traditional country kitchen! It’s an eclectic merger of styles that’s quite refreshing and surprising; in a good way, of course. Red and gold is a powerful, classic combination that evokes warmth and glamour. Lovely!

A Mother of Pearl’s iridescence depends on its thickness. The reflected hue depends on the angle and the way the light hits the nacre. The different layers reflect specific wavelengths that’s why they are so dazzling as a wall enhancer. They emit sheen and attract attention in a subtle way. Still mulling if you should cover your wall with it? Here’s another interesting info: the Chinese believe that the Mother of Pearl attracts luck and prosperity.

It’s not surprising to see copper inside a kitchen. They are either hanging from pot racks or peppered all over the kitchen as both functional and decorative pieces. Chefs love them because copper pots are durable and evenly distribute heat. As for kitchen walls, we love how they look when they are beautifully battered over time. The oxidation results into different shades of patina. The little dents and scratches add charm and character to it as well.

Mosaic tiles have been regarded as a work of art since its inception in the 4th Century B.C. in Mesopotamia. Installation can be daunting, but the outcome definitely outweighs that! Shiny mosaic tiles in a single color with varied shades such as the Botella Titanium Glow tiles above, even at its simplest, can be the focal point of a room. You can push the artistic factor of mosaic for your kitchens further by opting for intricate executions such as murals. Some even recreate famous paintings such as Michaelangelo’s David, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, and Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night. They’re not as shiny, but they’re definitely splendid!
